Although VIA has said that the lawsuit is not related to Apple's patent battles with its sister company High Tech Computer (HTC), market watchers believe VIA's action with support from Google should successfully impede Apple's lawsuits.
VIA currently holds more than 5,000 patents. As the IT industry is starting a patent war, the company's patents are expected to help protect operations as well as shareholders' equity.
VIA, in the first half of 2011, suffered losses of NT$1.14 billion (US$37.26 million), an EPS of negative NT$1.16. As for the future, the company's revenue performance in both the third and the fourth quarters is expected to stay weak.
