Notebook ODM Inventec has released its financial report for the third quarter of 2011 at an October 25 investors conference, with its gross margin of 3.81% marking a 7-quarter low.

Inventec shipped 4.3-4.4 million notebooks in the third quarter and 12.3-12.4 million units in the first three quarters. The company expects notebook shipments in the fourth quarter to remain unchanged or slightly increase sequentially, resulting in 2011 shipments of about 17 million units, falling short of its original target of 20 million units.

With Hewlett-Packard and Toshiba being two major clients, Inventec expects its ODM shipments of notebooks in 2012 to be approximately the same as in 2011, and server shipments to grow significantly.
