Quanta Computer and Wistron have announced their January results with both suffering on-month drops in terms of revenues and notebook shipments.

Quanta announced consolidated revenues of NT$78.3 billion (US$2.65 billion) for January, down 14.39% on month with notebook shipments of 3.8 million units, down from 4.2 million units in December.

As for the first quarter, market watchers estimate that Quanta's shipments will drop 10% on quarter due to hard drive shortages.

Wistron reported consolidated revenues of NT$51.48 billion for January, down 22.31% on month with notebook shipments of 2.4 million units, down from 3.2 million units in December. For the first quarter, market watchers expect Wistron to suffer a 15% on-quarter drop in notebook shipments.

In January, Wistron also shipped 1.1 million desktops, one million handheld devices, 100,000 servers, 400,000 LCD TVs and 600,000 LCD monitors.

As for the future, Wistron believes that January was the bottom for the year and its shipments have a chance to climb each month and reach 35 million units in 2012, up from 31.55 million units in 2011.

Although Compal Electronics has not yet announced its results for January, the company is expected to ship 48 million notebooks in 2012.
