Taiwan-based Insyde Software has announced the availability of its "Humanos" operating system for the next generation of Intel's 32nm SoC tablet platforms codenamed "Medfield."

Humanos is a value-added implementation of Android developed and optimized by Insyde for specific netbook and tablet platforms. A new feature in this version of Humanos is the ability to quickly switch between Android and another OS such as Microsoft Windows, Insyde indicated.

Other key features targeted at tablet users include an intuitive input method that supports over 40 different languages, a full featured browser, file management tools, easy access to applications markets and more.

In addition, Insyde announced the availability of its InsydeH2O UEFI firmware for Intel's Atom processors designed for embedded applications.

In addition to ensuring UEFI specification compliance, InsydeH2O is optimized to support performance oriented and power sensitive embedded platform requirements including fast booting, widespread OS support, remote console, and full ACPI 4.0 compliance, Insyde said. ACPI is critical to OS-directed configuration and power management.
