Global Unichip seeing demand for 65nm and below processes rise

Global Unichip has esimated that products requiring 65nm and below processing rose to account for more than 50% of its revenues in the second quarter, up from 45% in the first. The ratio will continue to expand in the second half of 2011 thanks to a ramp-up in orders for chips made using 28nm, the company noted.

Partnering with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Global Unichip provides a full range of IC design services including ASIC/turnkey as well as pure chip implementation.

Global Unichip's June revenues edged up 18.3% sequentially to NT$783 million (US$27 million), while fellow IC design service company Faraday Technology saw its revenues increase by only 1.1% on month.

Faraday's revenues for the first six months of 2011 slid 13.4% from a year earlier to NT$2.66 billion, while Global Unichip's decreased 10.4% on year to NT$4.23 billion during the same period.

Faraday partners with United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC).
