Foxconn likely to ship 17 million LCD TVs in 2011

Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) is expected to ship 17 million LCD TVs in 2011 thanks to orders from Sony and a number of brand vendors in China, including Suning and Gome, according to industry sources.

However, Foxconn's LCD TV shipments might be affected by Sony's recent downward adjustment of its LCD TV shipment target for 2011 to 22 million units from 27 million projected previously, the sources noted. Sony shipped only 4.9 million units of LCD TVs during the April-June period, which were lower than its target, said the sources.

Other sources pointed out that LCD TV orders received by Foxconn from Sony will continue to post substantial growth in 2011 due to a low base in 2010. Foxconn declined to comment on orders from individual clients.

In addition to Sony, some other TV vendors have also lowered their orders for LCD TVs recently with those models in display sizes ranging 32-37 inches being reduced significantly, the sources added.
