Asustek hikes 1Q12 business outlook

Asustek Computer has turned more optimistic about sales in first-quarter 2012 and revised its consolidated revenues forecast for the quarter from an original decline of 15-20% to a drop of 10%, company CEO Jerry Shen has told an investor conference.

The smartphones, tablet and notebook segments will merge into a large market in 2013 and their vendors will find themselves in hot competition that will lead to consolidations within the industries, Shen indicated. While many of the original vendors will be forced out, Asustek will be among a few surviving vendors, Shen claimed.

Of Asustek's consolidated revenues for fourth-quarter 2011, 63% came from notebooks, 14% from motherboards and cards, 8% from Eee PCs (netbooks), 6% from Eee Pad (tablet PCs) and 9% from others.
