First-tier tablet vendors including Apple, Samsung Electronics and Amazon, have all geared up for the next-generation tablet competition in September, while Intel and Google are also preparing to expand their market shares with their latest tablets and 2-in-1 devices, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Apple reportedly will launch its next-generation iPhone and iPad products on September 10 and also unveil its entry-level iPhone, featuring plastic chassis. The company will also cut its iPhone 5 and iPad mini prices.

Samsung is ready to announce the new Galaxy Note 3 with improved display sizes, resolution, cameras and processors. With Samsung's strong marketing ability, the Galaxy Note 3 is expected to help the Korea vendor defend its share in the large-size smartphone market.

Google's second-generation Nexus 7, which was launched in the US at the end of July, will be selling in more countries in September, while Amazon may also release its new 7- and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD series in September, priced between US$149-169 to maintain its market share.

Intel is also planning to host a 2-in-1 device conference on September 15 in the US to showcase latest 2-in-1 convertibles, equipped with Intel's Haswell or Bay Trail processors as well as Windows 8.1.

In addition to US$249-799 entry-level and mid-range products, Intel's US$999 2-in-1 devices are also expected to attract some consumer groups who place emphasis on performance and industrial design.
